Stage 1 not only helps time the duration of, and period between, the contractions of labor, it also helps you through the contractions themselves.

A simple, easy to read chart-style list shows the duration of your contractions, and how far apart they are. Once you tap "Begin" you are presented with a focal point, timing ring, and a background picture of your choosing. No ticking clock to add to the tension. Just a simple rotating marker on the ring to help you time your breathing. The focal point and timing ring are optional, and the speed of the marker is adjustable.

Need to adjust a contraction event? A simple manual edit screen is available, with room for whatever notes you may want to add.

Field tested and new mom approved, Stage 1 isn't just a contraction timer. It's another partner in the birthing process.

No nonsense timer that works perfectly

We used this timer last week when my wife went into labor. I put this app on my phone and my wife purchased / paid for another app for her phone. This app is easy, and very functional.
The simple interface is perfect. You see when the contraction started, how long it lasted and the time between contractions. Tapping the contraction entry lets you make notes.
In our experience, any more frill and fluff is a waste of time. The contractions started and we just needed a quick way to track them. Typing info into an iPhone app while using relaxation techniques wasn't feasible. The other app we used was so detailed that using it was too complicated while "in the moment". I remember using the other app and trying to get out of some graph screen and get to the timer screen, all the while coaching my wife. I abandoned that app completely and just used this app. We wasted money on the other app, and this free app worked perfectly!
Note to Birthing Partners: when the mother-to-be is in labor, she doesn't want to see you playing with your phone, even though you are using an app to time contractions. She doesn't want to hear about average times over an hour, doesn't want to see graphs or pie charts, or want you to "finger tap" in detailed notes. She just wants you to give her your undivided attention. This apps let's you give that to her. You just tap the begin / end button. The ONE screen shows you all the basic info you need. Simple. Easy. Perfect.

Wish it had a "share" feature

I'm in labor now- contractions 4 min apart, love that I can look at my sons sonogram pic in the background, but wish I could share the onscreen results with my physician, spouse & relatives via email.

Nearly epic

The visual long-term chart, ability to delete individual contractions by tapping them and then deleting, even the ability to tap a contraction and then tap a detail to manually adjust it is simply awesome. The focal point thing could be interesting for those who want a pic to focus on and want a specific breathing pattern, though that's going to change en-route and I don't think she'll want to stare at an iPhone screen during Transition:) Possible improvements are a water break marker, intensity info, ability to manually adjust intervals between contractions, and e-mail or text ability. Still, the visual summary and functionality make this the one for me.
